Salem HT (also known as Salem Sock) is a super-soft, squishy base of superwash merino and nylon. With 463 yards per 100 grams it can be knit as a fingering or light fingering weight. It is a two ply, high twist yarn that takes color beautifully…especially speckles.
Salem HT has an excellent drape and is perfect for lightweight shawls, cowls and, of course…socks! The high twist in the yarn helps give the yarn a bit of sturdiness and is less likely to pill over time. The merino has an excellent elasticity and memory, while the nylon provides additional strength.
Salem HT is named for Salem, a local Moravian settlement founded in 1766. In 1913, Salem officially joined with a neighboring town, Winston, to become Winston-Salem. Parts of Salem have been restored and can be seen when visiting Old Salem.
Additionally, Winston-Salem is the home of Salem College. Founded in 1772, it is the oldest educational institution for women still in operation.
